Water Treatment Plant Operator I/II/III
Position
Under general supervision of the Water Treatment Supervisor and technical lead of the Senior Water Treatment Plant Operator, a Water Treatment Plant Operator I, II, III operates and maintains the Westlake Filtration Facility, the pumping plant and the Las Virgenes Reservoir. As necessary, the Water Treatment Plant Operator I, II, III is required to work extended shifts and/or split schedules on a 7 days per week basis, after-hours, on-call periods and during other unusual or emergency conditions.
The Water Treatment Plant Operator I, II, III also may operate the potable and recycled water distribution systems when the Westlake Filtration Plant is offline or as required by the Water Treatment Supervisor.
A Water Treatment Plant Operator III exercises independent judgement and discretion and may have a greater scope of responsibility. The Water Treatment Plant Operator III is the fully experienced, journey level class. A Water Treatment Plant Operator II takes directions from the Water Treatment Operator III and Senior Water Treatment Plant Operator. The Water Treatment Plant Operator II is an apprenticeship class. A Water Treatment Plant Operator I is an entry-level class. Water Treatment Plant Operators are expected to develop additional skills to meet changes in water industry standards, practices, procedures and advancements in technology.
Upon meeting the performance standards, certification and competencies, an employee is flexed to the II or III level.
These positions reside in the Water Treatment section; however, they may be expected to perform duties in the distribution or construction sections depending upon the needs of the District.
The recruitment process will consist of an application screening, 1st round (structured) interview, and 2nd round (selection) interview. The tentative date ranges for the interviews are listed below:
1st Round Interview Date Range: March 10 – 14, 2025
2nd Round Interview Date Range: March 17 – 21, 2025

Training and Experience Guidelines
Any combination of training and experience, which demonstrates attainment of the required knowledge and ability to perform the required work (with reasonable accommodation, if needed), typically:
EDUCATION: High School diploma or equivalent is required.
EXPERIENCE:
Water Treatment Plant Operator I – Two (2) years of experience in working in a construction or mechanical repair activity.
Water Treatment Plant Operator II – Two (2) years of experience in the operation and maintenance of a water treatment plant or distribution system.
Water Treatment Plant Operator III – Two (2) years of experience in the operation and maintenance of a water treatment plant with one year as a T2 operator.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:
A valid California Class C driver’s license must be maintained at all times.
Water Treatment Plant Operator I – Possession of a State of California T1 Water Treatment Certification.
Water Treatment Plant Operator II – Possession of a State of California T2 Water Treatment Certification.
Water Treatment Plant Operator III – Possession of a State of California T3 Water Treatment Certification.

Water Treatment Operator III – T4 Water Treatment Certification, D4 Water Distribution Certification
