TITLE: Senior Control Systems Operator

SRN A35: $7,227 – $9,933, Monthly, Non-Exempt

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:                            

Reports to: Operations Crew Chief Control, Non-Potable Program Manager

Supervises the following positions: N/A

DEFINITION: Under General supervision, analyzes and evaluates the performance of the supervisory control and data acquisition system (SCADA) operating District facilities including storm water, canal, irrigation, sanitation, domestic water, and security operations; coordinates water efficiency efforts between the control room operators and field staff with an emphasis on solving water wasting situations in various agricultural applications; and performs related work as required.

 

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS: The Senior Control Systems Operator performs the most complex work assigned. Positions in this classification rely on experience and judgment to perform skilled duties and responsibilities with SCADA and reporting systems. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. Assists with the training of Control Systems Operators.

 

EXAMPLES OF TYPICAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1)     Monitors and analyzes irrigation gate positions, gate operation, and water levels monitored by the SCADA system including Domestic, Storm Water, canal irrigation and sanitation systems.

2)     Assists in the coordination of work between Control System Operators, Zanjeros, Technicians, Electricians, and Canal Maintenance Crews to provide uninterrupted service to the District’s customers.

3)     Analyzes water usage data from the supervisory control system and estimates anticipated water use; may function as water master for water orders, providing usage reports, and making flow adjustments. 

4)     Monitors and analyzes the irrigation canal and distribution system with the SCADA system to ensure that District personnel and customers practice rigorous water conservation measures in the delivery.

5)     Evaluates the performance of the SCADA system and makes recommendations for improvements to the user interface and system performance and to help resolve operational problems; updates standard operating procedures and related training documents for SCADA system operations; tests remote SCADA system screens and provides feedback.

6)     Place or assist with the placement of canal water orders through the Imperial Irrigation District (IID).

7)     Professionally discuss water delivery issues and make immediate adjustments to the distribution system to resolve issues.

8)     Receive and record orders for irrigation water deliveries for agricultural and golf course customers.

9)     Evaluates water movement through the canal system so level limits as implemented by the Bureau of Reclamation are strictly adhered to.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Education: Equivalent to a High School Diploma.

Experience: Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience equivalent to the District Canal Water Specialist or as a Control Systems Operator.

Licenses and Certifications: Possession of a valid California Driver’s License, to be maintained throughout employment. Possession of a Grade D2 Water Distribution Operators Certificate issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board, to be maintained throughout employment.
