Operations & Telemetry Technician I
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
Under supervision of the System Operations & Telemetry Manager, the Operations & Telemetry Technician is a hybrid position representing the District’s vision for a holistic approach to operations, serving System Operations, Telemetry, and Water Quality. Time allocated between the teams will be determined according to organizational need and priorities. This position requires a person who is deliberate about teamwork and professionalism, is flexible, can work independently, is a good listener, and can express ideas and exercise good judgement in analyzing situations and making decisions.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
System Operations
- Collect water samples and perform standard lab analyses;
- Operate groundwater treatment and monitoring facilities;
- Perform preventive maintenance and repair on pumps, valves, and meters;
- Conduct daily inspections of production facilities and monitor site safety;
- Respond to and resolve customer water quality service requests.
Telemetry/Instrumentation
- Test, troubleshoot, calibrate, and maintain electronic systems and controllers;
- Integrate SCADA and radio communication networks;
- Install electrical systems, including housings, wires, conduits, controllers and switchboards;
- Perform periodic electrical/electronic preventative maintenance, repair of the District’s water systems equipment, motor control programmable logic controllers, networking hardware, chlorine analyzers, etc.
Water Quality & Additional Duties

- Ensure proper chain of custody and perform lab analysis;
- Support project communication between System Operations and other divisions.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATES:
- Possession of a CA State Class C driver’s license.
- Possession of a D3 and T2 certificate issued by the State Water Resources Control Board (within 6 months of hire).
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
Any combination of equivalent experience and/or education that provides the required knowledge and abilities would be considered qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
- Experience: 2 years of field maintenance experience in water treatment, telemetry, or distribution systems;
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in communications, water technology, management science, public administration, or related field.
